What would happen if you were to combine a dummy camera battery and a memory card adapter? You’d get the Zitay CFast 2.0 to MSATA SSD adapter.
As its less-then-original name suggests, this little gadget lets you use MSATA SSDs in lieu of CFast cards through a clever dummy CFast 2.0 card that plugs into your camera’s memory card slot. This isn’t the first of its kind, but it is a newer product that works with a wide range of cameras, thanks to its flat cable that still allows the memory card cover to be closed on most supported cameras.
Zitay says its CFast 2.0 Dummy Card Adapter supports the following cameras:
- Canon XC10
- Canon C300 Mark II
- Canon 1DX Mark II
- Canon C200
- Blackmagic URSA
- Blackmagic URSA Mini
- BMPCC 4K
- ARRI Amira
- ARRI ALEXA MINI
- ZCAM E2
The transmission speed of the adapter tops out at 550MB/s and although any MSATA SSD should work, in theory, Zitay specifically suggests using Samsung 860 EVO MSATA SSD drives.
The adapter is constructed of an ‘aviation-grade’ 6061 aluminum alloy that’s CNC engraved. To insert and remove MSATA drive, you need a standard cross-head (Philips) screwdriver, but that should be it. The drive enclosure features a row of 1/4“-20 and 3/8” threads for securely mounting to cages and rigs.
