How to Cancel Your Amazon Prime Membership: Follow These Steps

How to Cancel Your Amazon Prime Membership: Follow These Steps
Amazon Prime membership cancellation is easy and takes just a few steps. Amazon offers a list of benefits to Prime members. These include free one-day and two-day deliveries, early access to regular sale events and Lighting Deals, and no minimum order requirement for free standard deliveries. Customers on Amazon Prime also get access to other services offered by the US company. These include Amazon Prime Music, Prime Video, and Prime Reading. Amazon also offers same-day deliveries to Prime members for eligible addresses.

Having said that, there could be some valid reasons that could lead you to cancel your Amazon Prime subscription. The one major reason is the price at which the Prime membership is available. It costs Rs. 329 for three months or Rs. 999 a year to Amazon customers in India. Although the membership is cheaper in the country when compared with the Prime membership in the US where you get Amazon Prime at a monthly charge of $12.99 (roughly Rs. 960) or annually at $119 (roughly Rs. 8,760), it may no longer make sense for you to continue.

One should note, if you choose to cancel your Amazon subscription in India, it will continue for the period you’ve already paid for — in other words, if you paid for an annual membership, after cancelling, it will continue till the end of the one-year period from the date you subscribed. Likewise, if you have opted for the quarterly membership, it will continue till the end of the three-month period from the date you subscribed. Thus, all cancelling a subscription does is prevent it from auto-renewing. Customers can, however, reach out to Amazon’s customer care team from its app or website to ask for cancelling the Prime subscription instantly — forfeiting their remaining membership period.

You can end your Prime membership at any time by visiting the Amazon website on your computer or through its app on your smartphone. Here’s how you can do that.

How to cancel your Amazon Prime membership

Below are the steps that you can follow to cancelling your Amazon Prime membership. These steps are for cancelling the Prime membership through Amazon’s site. You can, however, move to the next section to understand how you can cancel the Amazon Prime subscription from its app.

  1. Visit Amazon.in website and sign in with your account.
  2. Click on the hamburger menu button from the top-left side and select Your Account.

  3. Now, hit the Prime option.

  4. Click on the Manage membership link. A drop-down list will appear. Select Manage Membership.

  5. Hit the End membership option.

  6. Amazon will now show a screen to highlight how much you have saved in delivery fees since you have joined the membership. Click Continue to Cancel there.

  7. You will now see a screen showing the End on [expiry date of your Prime membership] button. This will essentially end your Prime membership once it reaches the renew date.

You can also get a reminder three days before your Prime membership renews by hitting the Remind me later button.

Amazon also shows an End Now button for the first three days of the Prime membership to let customers end their subscription on an immediate basis — if they aren’t satisfied with the service. In this case, the company will provide refund for full membership or the remaining period if the customers used any of the bundled services such as Prime Video or Prime Music. The refund will be provided through a credit note.

How to cancel your Amazon Prime membership using the app

You can follow the steps available below to end your Amazon Prime membership using its app on your smartphone.

  1. Go to the Amazon app on your phone.
  2. Tap the hamburger menu button from the bottom-right side.
  3. Now, tap Prime.
  4. Select the Manage My Membership next to the Prime title.
  5. Tap the Manage membership drop-down menu and then select the Manage Membership option.
  6. Hit End membership.
  7. Scroll down on the screen showing how much delivery fee you have saved since you have joined the membership.
  8. Tap Continue to Cancel and then the End on [expiry date of your Prime membership] button.

It is important to note that once you’ve cancelled your Prime membership, you will no longer be able to receive any Prime exclusive offers and services such as Prime Video and Prime Music.

Microsoft Partners With Inworld to Bring AI Game Development Tools to Xbox

Microsoft Partners With Inworld to Bring AI Game Development Tools to Xbox

Microsoft is teaming up with Inworld AI to create game development tools for Xbox, enabling developers to create characters, generate entire scripts and quests, and more. The multi-year deal brings an AI design copilot and an AI character runtime engine to the forefront, both of them being totally optional to use and to varying degrees. Of course, the use of AI in art has been criticised by many for simply lacking originality, in addition to running the risk of fewer jobs for artists — a growing fear among many considering the alarming number of layoffs seen at game studios this year in an attempt to cut costs.

“At Xbox, we believe that with better tools, creators can make even more extraordinary games,” Haiyan Zhang, GM, Xbox Gaming AI, said in a blog post. “This partnership will bring together: Inworld’s expertise in working with generative AI models for character development, Microsoft’s cutting-edge cloud-based AI solutions including Azure OpenAI Service, Microsoft Research’s technical insights into the future of play, and Team Xbox’s strengths in revolutionizing accessible and responsible creator tools for all developers.”

The aforementioned AI design copilot is a toolset that will help game designers turn prompts into scripts and dialogue trees. In contrast, the character runtime will enable dynamically generated plot beats and quests. We’ve already seen heavy AI integration in games by way of procedural generation — a more recent example being the 1000+ planets in Starfield. Not to mention, enemy AI has been around for way longer.

Inworld made headlines in August when it launched a modded story mode for Grand Theft Auto V, Sentient Streets, in which players had to investigate the rise of a bizarre AI-worshipping cult — a segment loaded with characters that spoke in AI-generated dialogue, on the fly. The mod was later taken down by publisher Take-Two, leaving a permanent strike on the creator Bloc’s YouTube channel. As per The Verge, Inworld’s AI technology can also be used for narration in top-down RPGs to warn players about any events awaiting off-screen and respond to questions like we’ve seen in the past year with AI chatbots like ChatGPT and Bing Chat. Microsoft has also been heavily banking on artificial intelligence, having made a $10 billion (about Rs. 83,254 crore) investment in OpenAI. The company has also integrated AI tools into its popular suite of services and also added an AI copilot to Windows.

Despite being a Microsoft-affiliated AI toolset, it would be interesting to see whether titles using them will be allowed to thrive on other platforms. In July, Valve claimed that it would be cracking down on games that included AI-generated assets if the developer didn’t own the copyright to the piece of art. For the uninitiated, when you insert a prompt to create something in AI, the software simply repurposes existing assets found online and mushes them together — basically stealing from other artists and writers without appropriate commercial licenses. Infringing them would lead to the game not being distributed on Steam, forcing the developers to seek proper licenses for the asset by reaching out to the AI companies involved. It’s unclear how Microsoft’s partnership will play out — as long as AI content is being used as a catalyst to innovate and create something new, it should be fine.

The promo image also adds in a finer print that the offer is available with certain terms and conditions, but hasn’t detailed any, so far.
