GoPro has announced three close-focus filters for its Mission 1 and Mission 1 Pro cameras. The diopters, made by filter company PolarPro, promise to provide more creative control by adding subject separation and blurring the background of photos and videos.

The new close-up filters come in +0.5, +1 and +2 diopter strengths, providing flexibility on how much blur is introduced. The stronger filters add more background blur, while the +0.5 filter provides a subtler look. Users can purchase the +0.5 filter individually, while the +1 and +2 filters are sold only as part of the three-filter set.

Each filter shifts the Mission 1 and Mission 1 Pro’s fixed-focus range closer than the cameras’ standard 60cm (24″) to infinity focus range. They allow creators to capture closer subjects with more background blur, something that isn’t typically possible with the ultrawide lenses found on action cameras.

Filter Near focus limit Far focus limit
+0.5 diopter 50cm (19.6″) 150cm (59″)
+1 diopter 45cm (17.7″) 90cm (35.4″)
+2 diopter 30cm (11.8″) 50cm (19.6″)

GoPro says that the filters are made from optical-grade multi-coated glass, adding that they will maintain sharpness and color accuracy. They are designed to slide over the Mission 1 and Mission 1 Pro lenses, and can be used on top of an ND filter.
